Gomoku Rules

Gomoku, también llamado cinco en línea, es un juego de tablero de estrategia abstracta. Tradicionalmente se juega con piezas de Go (piedras negras y blancas) en un tablero de Go de 15×15, aunque en el pasado era habitual un tablero de 19×19. Dado que las piezas normalmente no se mueven ni se retiran del tablero, el gomoku también puede jugarse con papel y lápiz. El juego es conocido en varios países bajo distintos nombres.

Cómo jugar

Los jugadores se turnan para colocar una piedra de su color en una intersección vacía. Las negras juegan primero. El ganador es el primer jugador que forme una línea ininterrumpida de cinco piedras de su color horizontalmente, verticalmente o diagonalmente.

En algunas reglas, esta línea debe tener exactamente cinco piedras; seis o más piedras en fila no cuentan como victoria y se denominan sobrelínea (overline). Si el tablero queda completamente lleno y nadie ha formado una línea de 5 piedras, la partida termina en tablas.

Gomoku libre

La forma más básica de gomoku se llama gomoku libre. En esta versión no hay restricciones en las jugadas. El primer jugador (negras) tiene una ventaja significativa, por lo que se han propuesto diversas modificaciones de las reglas para equilibrar el juego.

Reglas de Renju

Renju es una variante profesional del gomoku que añade reglas adicionales para equilibrar el juego. En Renju, las negras no pueden formar un doble tres, un doble cuatro ni una sobrelínea.

Un 'doble tres' es una jugada que crea al mismo tiempo dos líneas separadas de tres piedras (tres abiertos). Un 'doble cuatro' es una jugada que crea al mismo tiempo dos líneas separadas de cuatro piedras (cuatro abiertos). Una sobrelínea es una línea de seis o más piedras.

About Gomoku

Los registros históricos indican que los orígenes del gomoku se remontan a mediados del siglo XVIII durante el periodo Edo. Se dice que la décima generación de Kuwanaya Buemon, un comerciante que frecuentaba a la familia Nijō, era muy hábil en este juego, que posteriormente se difundió entre la población. El juego también es popular en Corea, donde se llama omok (오목 [五目]), que tiene la misma estructura y origen que el nombre japonés.

En el siglo XIX, el juego fue introducido en Gran Bretaña donde se conoció como Go Bang, que se dice es una corrupción de la palabra japonesa goban, que a su vez fue adaptada del chino k'i pan (qí pán) 'tablero de go'. El juego ganó cierta popularidad y en la década de 1920 fue producido comercialmente por empresas como The Chad Valley Co Ltd en una versión modificada comercializada como Spoil Five.
