🌍 Mancala is a classic two-player strategy game from the wider Mancala family of seed-sowing games. Your objective is simple: collect more stones in your store than your opponent by making efficient, tactical moves.
1️⃣ Pick one non-empty pit on your side. 2️⃣ Lift all stones from that pit. 3️⃣ Sow them one by one counterclockwise into the next pits.
✅ You do drop stones in your own store. ❌ You always skip your opponent’s store.
🧭 Because sowing is fixed-direction, pit choice is everything: the same number of stones in a different pit can produce a completely different result.
🔁 Extra turn: if your last stone lands in your own store, you immediately play again. Chaining extra turns is one of the strongest winning patterns.
🎯 Capture: if your last stone lands in an empty pit on your side, and the opposite pit has stones, you capture both your last stone and all stones opposite into your store.
🏁 The game ends as soon as one side’s six regular pits are all empty.
📦 All remaining stones on the other side are moved into that player’s store.
🏆 The player with the higher store total wins. Equal totals mean a draw.
💡 Prioritize extra turns. A safe extra turn is often better than a risky capture.
💡 Avoid leaving easy captures: empty pits on your side can become targets if your opponent can land there exactly.
💡 Count landing spots before moving. Ask: where will my last stone land, and what does that enable next?
💡 Watch endgame math closely. When the board is low on stones, precise counting can decide the game by 1–2 stones.
⚖️ Balance offense and defense: big captures are great, but giving your opponent a free extra turn can be worse.
📜 Mancala is one of the world’s oldest game families, with roots that go back centuries across Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia.
🗣️ The word ‘Mancala’ comes from an Arabic root meaning ‘to move,’ which matches the heart of the game: moving stones pit by pit with careful timing.
